In the new edition of Polski jest cool, the material at the A1 level has been divided into two parts, and the student's book is combined in one volume with a workbook, which definitely makes it easier for both the teachers and the students to use the book.
Polski jest cool A1 part II Student's book and Workbook, which is the second part of the course at the A1 level, contains 12 lesson units, which consist of several subchapters, a dedicated lesson for Easter, a workbook with the key, grammar tables considering the material from both parts and MP3 recordings available online. The textbook also includes the second part of the Polish phonetics course with recordings.
Each lesson contains a variety of exercises to develop listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. They use authentic materials, such as diagrams, leaflets, timetables or tables of arrivals and departures, which allow to better understand the Polish reality. The texts in the student's book are based on actual texts, and the dialogues imitate communication situations from everyday life. The selection and sequence of introducing grammatical material have been subordinated to language practice, and grammar is never practiced in isolation from the vocabulary presented in a given lesson. Memorising grammar rules is facilitated by clear and logical tables placed at the end of the book.
Polski jest cool A1 Part II is a textbook intended for students continuing to learn Polish as a foreign language at the A1 level, especially those who have completed the first part of the course.
The course includes: "Student's Book and Workbook" parts I and II, "Teacher's Guide", containing the key, transcription of recordings and tests for both parts of the textbook and "Games and Activities" with photopiable materials. The course continues at A2 level.
The student's book is engaging, contemporary, touches on topics which are interesting for both a teenager and an adult, and while learning the language students learn to understand the specifics of Polish culture, customs and the reality of everyday life in Poland. Thanks to practical realistic examples, students learn not only how to communicate in Polish, but also how to do shopping, rent an apartment, book a plane ticket, ask a doctor for help or tell about themselves.
The textbook implements all the language skills needed to effectively learn how to communicate - interesting texts for learning to understand written Polish: professional, high-quality listening recordings, interesting and diverse ideas for speaking - both in pairs and in groups, and consistently introduced tasks of increasing difficulty for writing.
It must not be overlooked that Polski jest cool at the A1 level is the only book on the market encompassing the phonetic course for learning Polish, consistently implemented in each lesson.
The phonetics course, inspired by Barbara Karczmarczuk's excellent book Wymowa polska z ćwiczeniami, allows to become familiar with the sound of the Polish language, particularly more difficult sounds, practice their pronunciation, and finally use the acquired skills in natural communication situations.
Problems with pronunciation often thwart foreigners from making contact in Polish. The practical phonetic course implemented in Polski jest cool will aid in overcoming this barrier. With frequent, consistent pronunciation exercises and engaging speaking tasks, students quickly gain confidence and put their skills into practice.
The new vocabulary is introduced in its appropriate context and is immediately used in a variety of exercises to improve all language skills. The entire lessons are concentrated on both new and previously learnt vocabulary and structures, so students are not surprised by the tasks which exceed their lexical resources or current skills. Should there be a problem with completing a task, students can easily find the presented vocabulary, tables with grammatical rules or new structures.
Thanks to the clear, consistently conducted lessons, students feel confident, their tangible progress enhances a sense of success and they are happy to practice new skills.

REVIEWS
"Polski jest COOL" is an extensive and complete attempt to create a study intended for the threshold level of teaching Polish as a foreign language. Its authors very creatively and professionally configure the lexical and grammatical material provided, maintaining the rigor and gradation resulting from methodological recommendations. The material is composed in a "modern" way, and it is possible to use it both during lessons and for independent work. This is because the authors imposed a great meticulousness on themselves. Subsequent units, words, grammatical problems, sentence constructions emerge consistently from the previous ones. The spiral method in learning and mastering lexis is also preserved, which is an indispensable principle at this level of language advancement. Compared to the leading publications of the same nature, it can be considered a very good concept. I willingly and responsibly recommend "Polski jest COOL" by Ewa Piotrowska-Rola and Marzena Porębska.

I would like to recommend a book for beginners, which was created at the School of Polish Language and Culture of the Catholic University of Lublin and hence, at least in part, its title - "Polski jest COOL". The authors of this book, Ewa Piotrowska-Rola and Marzenia Porębska, were most interested in convincing their students that the Polish language from the very first lesson can be primarily a communication tool which everyone is able to handle. […] The authors managed to keep the proportions between grammatical and communicative progression - each new structure is immediately applicable in a specific situation which a student may encounter on a daily basis. Multiple repetitions of the same material, but each time in a different exercise, cause that each topic is consolidated during the lesson, and the student gains the much-needed courage and freedom in speaking. Numerous drawings, photos and diagrams help in this. An additional advantage of this book is also the fact that it works great in groups which have had no contact with the Polish language and for whom Polish is quite an exotic language, especially in the phonic layer. The book is also worth recommending to those who prepare groups for certification exams.

Two things stand out about this book - it's easy to understand right from the start thanks to the drawings and photos, and you don't have to learn grammar or any other boring stuff. Everything just gets into your head! Exercises force you to repeat the same constructions in different ways and you don't even know how it is that you speak Polish from the first lesson!

Now I am doing my doctoral research at KUL. When I first came to Poland, I was greeted by a very difficult language. But the book "POLSKI JEST COOL" with its very simple structure and interesting content allowed me to understand and speak Polish in a short time. Interesting texts and relevant illustrations help to remember new words faster. Grammar is presented in a systematic and logical way.

The numerous reading materials, practical exercises and examples of useful dialogues depicting everyday situations in this book present the rules of Polish grammar in a natural and practical context. They prepare the student to speak, read and write Polish extremely quickly. The material is very well organized, richly illustrated and attracts attention.

The book "POLSKI JEST COOL" is a real treasure! Thanks to it, I had the courage to repeat A, B, C... first, and then I was able to swim to the depths of the Polish language. That is why I owe so much to its authors and I recommend it to all those learning Polish.
